Banana Leaf Restaurant is a great place if you’re craving authentic Sri Lankan cuisine—with a touch of South Indian flavors as well. The food is consistently aromatic, fresh, and full of flavor. Although it might be a bit of a drive from the DC area, the trip is well worth it for the variety of Sri Lankan classics featured on their menu. (Tip: check their official website for the full menu, as the Google listing doesn’t include every dish they serve.) One of the highlights is their Sunday all-you-can-eat lunch buffet, which offers an excellent selection of Sri Lankan specialties. The restaurant itself is calm and spotlessly clean, with walls adorned with beautiful Sri Lankan scenery and artwork—creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. On our first visit, we tried we tried few of their dishes and found the food to be fresh and very flavorful. On our second visit, we tried the Sunday buffet and were impressed with the quality and balance of flavors—each dish had just the right amount of spice and was wonderfully prepared. Overall, Banana Leaf is an excellent spot for anyone looking to experience the rich flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine in a clean and relaxing environment.

This is a really nice spot. Very relaxing and chill with a slight elegance, since they serve on real dishes. The food is great, the service is good, and the prices are reasonable...especially for the quality.

This restaurant was absolutely incredible. I just came back from a vacation in Sri Lanka and was craving the food so badly. Found this gem — the only Sri Lankan restaurant in the area — and it certainly did NOT disappoint. The food was amazing, came out quickly, and the staff were so friendly. Everything we got was phenomenal and brought me right back to Sri Lanka! Portions are generous and we even got to have leftovers to enjoy later on. We got the fish egg rolls, chicken curry (which comes with 4 yummy curry vegetables), hoppers (they kindly allowed us to get two with egg and two plain), and string hoppers with kiri hodi and coconut sambol. My personal favorites were the fish spring rolls, the string hoppers, and their coconut sambol! The regular Sri Lankan tea comes in a hot steeping pot and tasted nice, but if you’d like a kick of flavor, I suggest the fresh ginger tea. Everything was lovely, and I think even warmer lighting in the dining room would make the space feel even cozier. But if you’re in the area (or even if not), this restaurant is worth the visit!

We absolutely loved our meal here! The lamprais tasted just like a homemade Sri Lankan meal — comforting, flavorful, and authentic. The kothu was amazing too, and the hot butter cuttlefish instantly took us back to evenings in Sri Lanka, enjoying a drink by the beach with family. My husband enjoyed every bite as well, and we can’t recommend this place enough. The owner, Dhanushka, was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. We can’t wait to be back!

Delicious Sri Lankan food and tastefully decorated space with nice ambiance. A TV plays on the side with Sri Lanka landscapes and history. Thoroughly enjoyed the hoppers, coconut roti, godambara rotti, black pork curry, and the caramel pudding. Will be back again for this delicious food. Very authentic Sri Lankan dishes.

First time trying Sri Lanka food! It's a cross between Indian and South Asian cuisine so if you love them both, you will definitely like this place. I ordered a few items to try, one of their popular items is Lamprais, a rice dish with choice of protein and different sides wrapped into a banana leaf "packet" and baked...I got the lamb and it was so flavorful and spicy! Kinda like a spicy curry lamb biryani. Now I want to try the other proteins to see if the taste is different...either way, I know I will love it! Also got the fish spring rolls...I know I know, sounds weird but intriguing lol. So it was crispy like a spring rolls, the skin was thick more like an egg roll, filling texture was more on the mushy side, not diced up or chunky, so fair warning. It actually tasted good but had to get used to the texture. Last, I got the coconut custard dessert... love anything coconut but this wasn't it. I didn't taste any coconut and it was super sweet and kinda soggy versus a firm custard. Very cardamommy lol if that's a word hahaha. Not for me. So I would definitely go back for more Lamprais real soon...will probably just stick with that!
